Preliminary Investigation -

Francis Howell Cemetery - 10/22/07

Location: Francis Howell Cemetery, located in the Busch Wildlife Area, just outside of Weldon Springs, Missouri. This is a very old cemetery that is the final resting place of some of the pioneers of St. Charles county. The cemetery is named after, and is the final resting place of, Francis Howell Sr. He arrived in the area and settled on the land in 1795 - only 32 years after the city of St. Louis was established as a fur trading post along the Mississippi. This land was originally owned by the Spanish, the French, and then the United States as a part of the Louisiana Purchase. Francis Howell's grave seems to be the oldest in the cemetery, him being buried there in 1834, 173 years ago.

Equipment Used: Casio EX-P600 digital camera.

Personal Experiences: None noted.

Results and Analysis: Nothing out of the ordinary occurred during the visit. The following are just some pictures of the cemetery:

This is the final resting place of Francis Howell Sr. Born 1762 and died 1834. His son, Francis Howell Jr. would later found a school in the St. Charles area and would eventually have the Francis Howell school district named after him.
